Having bariatric surgery is a huge change to not only your body and its appearance but to the way that you eat and the way that you live. after bariatric surgery you are going to have to drastically change the way that you live and the way that you eat. The major changes are going to be right after your surgery, but once you are able to eat solid foods again you are going to have to modify your diet. For the first two weeks after bariatric surgery you are only going to be permitted to intake clear liquids such as beef broths, chicken broths, and liquid protein, fruit juices diluted with water, such as cranberry juice, grape juice or apple juice. It is suggested that you intake about 64 ounces of liquid a day.

Using a straw is not suggested. It is recommended that you sip about one to two ounces of liquid every thirty minutes. Approximately three to four weeks after bariatric surgery you will be able to consume pureed food. This varies depending on patients and doctors and also has a lot to do with how you are healing. Once you have gotten the go ahead to eat pureed foods after bariatric surgery you will have to make sure that what you are eating is about the consistancy of apple sauce.

When you are pureeing your food after bariatric surgery it is suggested that you add gravy, skim milk or liquid broth to help make it smoother. Remember, you stomach is sensitive and still healing. About five to six weeks after your bariatric surgery you should be able to eat soft foods. Soft cooked vegetables, canned fruit, cooked noodles, yogurt and other protein rich food. It is important to abide by the suggestions and recommendations of your doctor.
