Pancreatic Cancer Symptoms Prognosis

Pancreatic Cancer Symptoms, Prognosis; Some Information About A Rare But Very, Very, Serious Health Condition.

For patients showing signs of pancreatic cancer symptoms, prognosis is not good. This is because while there may be no pancreatic cancer symptoms at first, the disease spreads quickly, and by the time the cancer is diagnosed, the prognosis, which is not good to begin with, is even worse. There are two types of pancreatic cancer, the most common being Carcinoma of the Pancreas. The other very rare type of pancreatic cancer is called Islet Cell Cancer. The pancreatic cancer symptoms prognosis for patients with Islet Cell Cancer is particularly bleak. People at risk for a pancreatic cancer symptoms prognosis include patients over the age of 60, smokers, diabetics, men, and African-Americans. A person may have none of these risk factors and still develop the disease.

Pancreatic cancer symptoms include pain that spreads from the upper abdomen to the back, jaundice which will produce yellow skin and dark urine, weakness, weight loss, nausea, and lack of appetite. Sometimes a patient may become suddenly diabetic. Unfortunately, these can be symptoms for many different conditions. As stated earlier, by the time tests are run to diagnose the disease, the pancreatic cancer symptoms prognosis will be poor. The treatment for pancreatic cancer consists of surgery, chemo therapy, and radiation. The kind of treatment a patient may receive depends upon how advanced the cancer is and where it is located.

New drugs are being developed to give a patient a better pancreatic cancer symptoms prognosis. Even if it is diagnosed early, the pancreatic cancer symptoms prognosis is not good. It is a hard disease to treat. The one-year survival rate is around 20 per cent and the five-year survival rate is around 5 per cent. Many doctors tell patients to enroll in clinical trials for drugs that may help provide a better pancreatic cancer symptoms prognosis.
